Local resident and architect, David Gole of Riddel Architecture, designed Maleny as sustainable village, providing quality lifestyle choices with a strong focus on community and wellness options for residents.

Each dwelling is ecologically designed to reflect the very best of the iconic Maleny environment including bamboo flooring, rainwater harvesting, water and energy efficiencies and is located within easy reach of all the amenities as well as cafes and dining that Maleny has to offer. 'The Clubhouse' will be the heart of the social community including a gym area, craft and library areas, billiards area, resident lounge (including large screen TV) and barbeque.

This vision and planning has been recognised with Maleny Grove been named 2011 House of the Year at the Sunshine Coast Regional Architectural Awards announced on April 8. The jury commented:

“Overall site planning, orientation and built form is responsive to the rural town setting and the target market of retirees from larger properties by conveying spaciousness as well as a residential scale. Building forms are enhanced by well scaled, contemporary external treatments, materials and detailing.”

“Clerestory roof treatments with scissor truss and raking ceilings admit light into the centre of each house allowing the spaces to present as generous single storey volumes.”

“The selection of internal materials and sustainability principles evokes high quality whilst not being lavish. There is an overall feeling of comfortable community engagement for aging in place village residents.”

Maleny Grove is a member of the Retirement Villages Association and and is registered under the Retirement Villages Act of Queensland providing legislative protection for its residents.
